Why is organ donation so important?

Every year, thousands of people lose their lives while waiting for an organ transplant. By choosing to become an organ donor, you have the power to give someone a second chance at life.

What are the most common myths about organ donation?
Myth: My religion does not allow organ donation.
Fact: Most major religions in the U.S. support organ donation as an act of charity, compassion, and generosity. Many even encourage it as a way to help others.

Myth: If I’m listed as a donor, doctors won’t work as hard to save my life.
Fact: Medical teams are focused on saving lives. Your care comes first, and organ donation is only considered after all lifesaving efforts have been exhausted and death has been confirmed.

Myth: I’m too old to be an organ donor.
Fact: There is no strict age limit for organ donation. Doctors determine if your organs or tissues can be used based on health and condition, not age.
